Democratic Party argues removing acting president requires a simple majority, sparking legal and political disputes
Acting President Han Duck-soo promulgated on Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting the 2024 Tax Amendment Bill, featuring tax breaks for small businesses, extended R&D credits and a two-year delay in taxing virtual assets. Stressing bipartisan cooperation, Han urged lawmakers to prioritize stability and focus on policies protecting exports, investment and economic resilience.
Notably absent from the meeting’s agenda were two special counsel bills targeting President Yoon Suk-yeol and first lady Kim Keon-hee. The two bills call for special counsel investigations into Yoon’s martial law declaration and alleged financial misconduct and election interference and alleged influence peddling involving Kim.
