Legal complaints threaten to derail KHNP’s $17.4 billion project as Yoon seeks to strengthen ties with Prague
Westinghouse Electric Company LLC and Electricite de France (EDF) filed complaints last week with the Czech Office for the Protection of Competition against Prague’s selection of South Korea’s Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Company (KHNP) as the preferred supplier for the Central European country’s new nuclear power plant.
EDF contests the supplier selection decision, while Westinghouse alleges “violations of procurement principles and errors in the selection process.” Westinghouse seeks the cancelation of KHNP’s preferred status and EDF’s inclusion, as well as the reversal of its own exclusion from the bidding stage. The Czech government has initiated administrative proceedings but has withheld further comment until it has completed its initial review of the complaints.
