Briefings Newly-elected ruling party leader will emerge as a challenge and asset for YoonHan Dong-hoon might challenge president’s authority, but independent stance may shield Yoon from impeachment South Korea’s ruling People Power Party (PPP) elected Han Dong-hoon as its new leader with nearly 63% of the votes on Tuesday. Three other candidates ran for the position: Na Kyung-won, Won Hee-ryong and Yoon Sang-hyun. The other three candidates trailed behind Han, and they failed to consolidate their candidacies to defeat Han. Han secured a majority of the votes in the four-way race, nullifying the need for a runoff election. Han returns to head the party nearly three months after he resigned as interim leader to take responsibility for the party’s defeatin April’s parliamentary elections.
