South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and main opposition Democratic Party (DP) leader Lee Jae-myung will likely meet this week for the first time since Yoon’s inauguration two years ago. DP spokesperson Kang Seon-woo confirmed on Friday that Yoon and Lee spoke on the phone, whereby Yoon inquired about Lee’s health and proposed a meeting.
Lee agreed to meet with the president, citing the need to address national and economic issues. The DP welcomed Yoon’s proposal, emphasizing the importance of bipartisan cooperation in tackling the nation’s challenges. Lee expressed hope that the meeting would provide an opportunity for substantive dialogue.
