The foreign ministers of Korea and Germany convened in Seoul on April 15th to discuss the Ukraine crisis, security issues surrounding the Korean Peninsula, and prospects for cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. ROK foreign minister Park Jin highlighted that both sides expressed concern about the worsening humanitarian and economic situation in Ukraine and agreed on the importance of solidarity and support from the international community.
The two ministers also exchanged views on various issues of mutual interest, including China. German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock acknowledged China’s significance as a global partner while noting its role as “a competitor and systemic rival.” Seoul and Berlin also plan to collaborate in economic security, artificial intelligence (AI), and quantum technologies.
