Briefings Chey Tae-won keeps control of SK despite 944 billion won divorce rulingCash settlement preserves SK ownership stability but shifts attention to leverage, governance and investor confidence The Seoul High Court on Friday ordered SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won to pay his former wife, Roh Soh-yeong, $645.3 million (944 billion won) in cash, while allowing him to retain the SK shares that underpin his control of the conglomerate. The court assigned one-third of the divisible assets to Roh and two-thirds to Chey, finding that the shares formed part of the marital estate because Roh contributed to preserving and increasing their value through household work, child-rearing and public activities linked to SK. The award was lower than the $944 million (1.3808 trillion won) ordered by the same court © Korea Risk Group. All rights reserved. |
