Briefings South Korea extends review of Google’s mapping data export amid US trade tensionTariff deal without written terms could make mapping dispute a bargaining chip for Trump and Lee as lobbying accelerates South Korea announced on Friday that it will delay a decision on Google’s request to export the country’s high-precision national base map, extending the review period by 60 days. Google first applied on Feb. 18 to transfer the detailed mapping data abroad, but in May the government’s overseas data transfer panel granted a first extension, citing the need for further discussion of national security issues. The latest delay came at Google’s request to allow more time to review measures addressing those concerns. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) said it will examine Google’s proposals with other relevant agencies © Korea Risk Group. All rights reserved. |
