MBC, KBS and SBS declare Lee the “certain winner” as Kim Moon-soo concedes defeat
South Korea’s three major broadcasters projected Democratic Party (DP) candidate Lee Jae-myung as the “certain winner” (당선 확실) of Tuesday’s snap presidential election just before midnight, citing over 99% statistical confidence. The announcement followed after more than 84% of ballots counted after polls closed at 8 p.m.
According to exit polls from SBS, one of South Korea's three main broadcasters, Lee received 48.3% of the vote, compared to People Power Party candidate Kim Moon-soo’s 42.8% at around 1:45 a.m. Final confirmation of Lee’s win (당선 확정) is expected after a formal National Election Commission meeting between 7 a.m and 9 a.m.
