The PPP mixes something borrowed, something new as conservatives try to shed Yoon’s toxic political baggage
WIth the Constitutional Court’s decision last week to uphold former President Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment, triggering a snap presidential election scheduled for June 3, the ruling People Power Party (PPP) has released seven policy visions that suggest how South Korea's conservative bloc may try to reorient itself ahead of the election.
Even though the party has yet to rally around a single candidate, the seven policy visions indicate how the PPP could try to reclaim moderate voters while maintaining its image as the “genuine” conservative party in light of main opposition Democratic Party (DP) leader Lee Jae-myung’s pivot to “centrist-conservativism.”
