Decision could trigger snap election or reinstate Yoon, as nation remains divided over martial law declaration
South Korea’s Constitutional Court will deliver its ruling on President Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment on Friday, April 4, at 11 a.m., the court announced on Tuesday. The verdict will determine whether Yoon will be removed from office or reinstated following his impeachment by the National Assembly on Dec. 14, 2024.
The court said that live broadcasting by media outlets and public attendance would be allowed during the ruling session. If the court upholds the impeachment, Yoon will be removed from office, triggering a snap presidential election within 60 days. If the impeachment is dismissed or rejected, Yoon will immediately return to his duties. At least six of the eight sitting justices must vote in favor for the impeachment to be upheld.
