Veiled threats, opposition party’s demands and ruling party’s pressure leave Han Duck-soo in a precarious position
Acting President Han Duck-soo held talks with U.S. President Joe Biden and General Paul J. LaCamera on Sunday, pledging to maintain the U.S.-ROK alliance and reinforce joint defenses against North Korea. Biden reaffirmed the alliance as “ironclad,” while LaCamera promised continued military readiness and joint exercises.
Han met National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik later in the day to push for cooperation in stabilizing state affairs after President Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment. Both discussed creating a consultative body comprising representatives from the ruling party, the opposition and the government to address urgent economic and political challenges.
