New facility in Geelong set to produce howitzers and armored vehicles, boosting ROK-Australia defense ties
Hanwha Aerospace announced on Friday that it completed its first overseas defense production facility in Geelong, Australia. The Hanwha Armoured Vehicle Center of Excellence (H-ACE) will produce 30 AS9 self-propelled howitzers and 15 AS10 ammunition resupply vehicles starting in late 2024, with production of 129 Redback infantry fighting vehicles slated for 2026.
The facility spans about 37 acres (150,000 square meters) and comprises 11 structures, including production buildings, a 1200-meter test track, a deep-water test facility and an obstacle course. The construction phase created approximately 100 jobs in Geelong, while the production of Redback vehicles alone is forecast to support about 2,100 jobs, including 1,800 direct positions.
