South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol will participate in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) meeting in San Francisco on Thursday. The IPEF, an initiative led by the U.S., includes 14 member countries such as the ROK, Australia, India and Japan. This meeting aims to discuss “concrete plans for cooperation” among the member states. The upcoming meeting will occur amid heightened expectations for a summit between U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
Yoon’s participation in the IPEF coincides with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. Yoon will travel to San Francisco to attend the APEC summit, followed by visits to the UK, France and the Netherlands. Yoon’s office has not confirmed he would meet with Xi. Yoon and Xi last met in Nov. 2022 in Bali, Indonesia.
