During his state visit to Qatar, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol outlined plans to broaden bilateral cooperation beyond the traditional realms of energy and construction into areas such as investment, defense, agriculture, culture and human exchanges. This move comes as the two nations approach their 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, a period marked by significant collaborative achievements including the ROK’s involvement in about 130 construction projects within Qatar.

Yoon also highlighted the robust economic ties, noting trade volume between the two countries reached $17.1 billion in 2022. Yoon emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation into advanced industries, underpinned by a recently concluded visa exemption agreement, promising an active pursuit of collaborative opportunities in education, culture and tourism.
