The operator of Japan's Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant announced on Monday the completion of the first release of treated radioactive water, in line with its schedule. The water contained 1.2 trillion becquerels of tritium, within prescribed limits, according to South Korea's Office for Government Policy Coordination. A total of 7,800 tons were released, representing 0.5% of the contaminated water stored at the site since Aug. 24.
During the 19-day release period, South Korea's Yoon Suk-yeol administration concentrated its efforts on ensuring and promoting the safety of domestic seafood consumption. Initiatives included serving domestic seafood at the Presidential Office canteen and local government campaigns to promote radiation safety and seafood consumption.
