South Korea’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) announced that MND minister Lee Jong-sup attended a meeting with the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) to discuss defense and security cooperation between South Korea and Latin America, as well as the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and the Indo-Pacific region. Lee emphasized the importance of strengthening defense cooperation and outlined potential avenues for development, including establishing a systematic basis for cooperation, regular exchanges of high-level officials and expanding defense and military collaboration.

Latin American ambassadors expressed their support for South Korea’s defense initiatives and commitment to revitalizing defense and security collaboration. Additionally, Lee sought Latin American support for South Korea’s bid to host the Busan World Expo 2030 and emphasized the crucial role of Latin American ambassadors in fostering defense and security cooperation between the two regions.
