Ahn acknowledged headwinds in key export sectors, including semiconductors and automobiles, while outlining the government\u2019s plans to unveil an inter-ministerial emergency export strategy by Feb. 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ahn further urged KITA to strengthen its role as a trade think tank, particularly in supporting exporters navigating rising protectionist measures in major economies, including the U.S. The minister also attended KITA\u2019s World Trade Forum, where he discussed strategies to address geopolitical risks, protectionism and supply chain realignments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>WHY IT MATTERS<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Donald Trump\u2019s return to the U.S. presidency signals a resurgence of his <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefings-statements\/2025\/01\/president-trumps-america-first-priorities\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">America First policies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including an intensified focus on reshoring industries, imposing trade tariffs and pressuring allies to adjust trade balances. For South Korea, this means navigating an increasingly protectionist environment that could restrict access to key markets and heighten competition for export-driven industries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To counter these challenges, South Korea is ramping up international cooperation in developing global standards for advanced industries.
