The USTR will also establish an exclusion process for certain machinery used in U.S. manufacturing, prioritizing some solar manufacturing equipment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Why It Matters<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods could benefit South Korean exporters, particularly in the electric vehicle (EV) and battery sectors. According to the U.S. International Trade Commission, a 20% global tariff increase on Chinese EVs could result in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesskorea.co.kr\/news\/articleView.html?idxno=217005\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10% increase<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in South Korean EV exports. The tariffs may also help South Korean companies regain market share from Chinese competitors in the solar industry. South Korean battery manufacturers have seen their combined market share in non-Chinese markets fall by 5.4 percentage points to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesskorea.co.kr\/news\/articleView.html?idxno=209443\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">48.5%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senior diplomats from South Korea and the U.S. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.yna.co.kr\/view\/AEN20240504000400315?section=search\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">discussed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the need for a joint response to the potential ramifications of overcapacity in China\u2019s solar industry during the 10th Energy Security Dialogue earlier this month.
