South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol will <\/span>participate<\/span><\/a> in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) meeting in San Francisco on Thursday. The IPEF, an initiative led by the U.S., includes 14 member countries such as the ROK, Australia, India and Japan. This meeting aims to discuss \u201cconcrete plans for cooperation\u201d among the member states. The upcoming meeting will occur amid heightened expectations for a <\/span>summit<\/span><\/a> between U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.<\/span><\/p>\n Yoon\u2019s participation in the IPEF coincides with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. Yoon will travel to San Francisco to attend the APEC summit, followed by visits to the UK, France and the Netherlands. Yoon\u2019s office has not confirmed he would meet with Xi. The involvement of both Yoon and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in this initiative highlights strengthening South Korea-Japan relations.<\/span><\/p>\n Though unconfirmed, Yoon\u2019s potential meeting with Xi Jinping will likely cover crucial topics, including the recent <\/span>agreement<\/span><\/a> by China to mandate its fishing fleets to use the automatic identification system in South Korea\u2019s Exclusive Economic Zone from 2024 \u2014 a significant step toward resolving maritime disputes between the two countries.
