U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol reaffirmed the alliance between their two countries, but a number of issues appear to have caused friction behind the scenes.

During their meeting on Thursday, Harris and Yoon reportedly discussed the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), gender inequality, North Korea and China.

The good news for Yoon is that the meeting lasted 85 minutes — much longer than his brief interactions with U.S. President Joe Biden in London and New York around a week ago. Harris is also reportedly not hung up about when the South Korean president recently appeared to call the U.S. Congress “bastards” last week.

The bad news is that Yoon doesn’t look any closer to solving issues that have plagued relations with Washington lately, a disappointment considering the lengths he’s gone to build up the U.S. as South Korea’s best friend on the international stage.
