South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol is set to visit New York next week for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting, the ROK presidential office announced Thursday. During his five-day visit, Yoon will deliver a keynote speech on Sept. 20, which will touch upon pressing global issues, including the Ukraine war and an evolving nuclear threat from North Korea. Yoon will also hold a series of bilateral meetings with leaders such as U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Yoon, during the meeting, is also expected to outline Seoul’s contribution to addressing global economic disparities and action plans as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for 2024-2025.
Yoon's previous visit to New York last September resulted in around $1.15 billion in investment from seven U.S. and Canadian companies. His upcoming visit takes on a business dimension once again, with the participation of prominent Korean business leaders, reportedly including SK Inc. Chairman Chey Tae-won, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Chung Euisun, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and LG Corp. Chairman Koo Kwang-mo. The high-profile business delegation accompanying Yoon is likely aimed at furthering business cooperation with U.S. industries and advocating for Busan's bid to host the World Expo 2030.
